Reviving  the  History  of  the  Maiden  Tower

Tallinn, the capital of Estonia, is famous for its Old Town. One of the main elements of the Old Town is the medieval town wall with its prominent defence towers. Some of those towers are open to the public, presenting their stories and the town´s history.

The main input for our project were historical documents, the description and the purpose of the object. We were tasked to find an innovative visually attractive perspective in order to convey the varied past of the Maiden´s Tower.

We came up with a storyteller in the form of an ant who had lived in the tower for hundreds of years, sharing his experiences and memories. His story is presented as chapters in a history book. Currently the animation is presented to visitors on two large screens on the ground floor of the Maiden´s Tower.  Thus, before even buying a ticket for the tour, visitors can have an interesting and educational overview of the history of the building to inform their subsequent visit.
